"Before you, Bella, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars, points of light and reason. ...And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, everything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by the light. I couldn’t see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason, for anything."

Review: Marked

Title: Marked
Author: PC Cast and Kristin Cast
Pages: 306
Rating: 3/5

Enter the dark, magical world of The House of Night, a world very much like our own, except here vampyres have always existed. Sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird has just been Marked as a fledgling vampyre and joins the House of Night, a school where she will train to become an adult vampire. That is, if she makes it through the Change--and not all of those who are Marked do. It sucks to begin a new life, especially away from her friends, and on top of that, Zoey is no average fledgling. She has been chosen as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx. Zoey discovers she has amazing powers, but along with her powers come bloodlust and an unfortunate ability to Imprint her human ex-boyfriend. To add to her stress, she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers: When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite group, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends (Cover Blurb).

I was really excited about starting this series, and was hoping that I would love it. I didn't. I was really bored the entire first half of the book, and I thought the main character, Zoey, was rather annoying. I just couldn't connect with her. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that this is a young adult book, and I'm too old (oh I do not like saying that) or if its the writing style, but something about this book just really turned me off.

I did like the second half of the book better, and felt that the story line developed more and had a bit more action, but it still wasn't great. I think the problem may half to do with the fact I find myself comparing this series to Twilight and its not the same thing. I need to come to the realization that nothing will ever be Twilight and most likely I'll never be touched by a young adult book like that again.

I am going to try to stick with this series, seeing as how I own them all. I'm hoping that as I continue with it, the story line will get better and more intense.

I thought this was the weakest book of the series so far. It seemed like nothing really happened. (and the 'teen' talk irritated me too - maybe I'm just an old lady!) I liked the next few books better!
